The National Investigation Agency's (NIA) anti-terrorist squad launched search operations at nine locations in East Medinipur’s Moyna area early Tuesday in connection with the abduction and murder of BJP leader Bijay Krishna Bhuiyan. Bhuiyan, a BJP booth in-charge, was abducted and fatally wounded in March 2023, later succumbing to his injuries at a local hospital.
The NIA began the raids at 2 AM, but many of the accused were reportedly not present at their homes during the searches. This is part of an ongoing investigation into the case, which involves the use of powerful explosives.
The victim’s relatives had initially lodged an FIR and escalated the matter to the Calcutta High Court, leading to the NIA being assigned the case.
The NIA had previously conducted searches related to this case in May 2023.
